With the increasing number of blogs, Web pages uploaded on a daily basis, the current figure on the size of the Web is expected to continuously increase . What does the increasing number of Web pages and unique Web sites mean to online users? Well, an article from Sunday Times is quoted as saying that:

“The web is as guilty of cluttering our lives with information overload as anything else.”

Oftentimes, we hear the phrase “too much information”. It’s true because we feel overwhelmed which content to read, which updates to follow. We can’t just avoid accessing information, particularly, in today’s information society. However, we can avoid information overload. The Sunday Times recommended a shortcut for this through using the RSS - “the best way to check the newest material on a selection of Web sites”.

The WIKIPEDIA lists the general causes of information overload:

* A rapidly increasing rate of new information being produced
* The ease of duplication and transmission of data across the Internet
* An increase in the available channels of incoming information (e.g. telephone, e-mail, instant messaging, RSS)
* Large amounts of historical information to dig through
* Contradictions and inaccuracies in available information
* A low signal-to-noise ratio
* A lack of a method for comparing and processing different kinds of information

Hence, the increasing RSS is also a source of information overload. Catherine Sanders Reach, director of American Bar Association (ABA), recommends, that with RSS, “get only the information you want, when you want it”.

And, as both recommended by both the ABA and Sunday Times, a good way to start is by using a feed aggregator. At Mojaz, we already made it easy for you by giving you the best preselected feeds on the Web; or by making your own selection of feeds to subscribe using our feed aggregator.
