Common questions that keep on popping up from online users about feed aggregator - what is it all about, where and how to use it.
Some quick tutorial here:
What is feed aggregator?
A feed aggregator is a “client software or Web application that simply aggregates syndicated Web content such as news, blogs, podcasts, videos in a single location for easy viewing”.
What is Web syndication?
It refers to “making Web feeds available from a site in order to provide other people with a summary of the Web site’s recently added content.” One of the main families of syndicating Web content is the RSS.
What is RSS?
Three definitions have emerged for RSS: Rich Simple Summary (RSS 0.91), Resource Description Framework (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90), and Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0).
Meanwhile, if you are wondering on how RSS looks like, this is how you see it on Web sites.
This feed icon is used to indicate that a Web feed is present in a Web page.
The RSS names may be pretty daunting for non-techies, isn’t it, but the three definitions of RSS “all work in broadly similar and related ways”, as Keith Martin said. Go over his essay on how RSS is made, and how to read it.
Simply said, RSS is the way of informing readers about the fresh content/updates from online sites.
RSS content can be read using feed reader and feed aggregator. Feed aggregators come in different forms: the email-based, the desktop-based, and the Web-based feed aggregator. An example of the latter is Mojaz.
